Our Hello Fresh Experience

I took the plunge and decided to try Hello Fresh for the first time last year. I was first tempted to try this meal-kit provider because my favorite bloggers were constantly raving about it, and one day, I received a coupon in the mail. This coupon was what pushed me over the edge to finally give it a try.

After receiving my first week of ingredients and recipe cards, I took it to IG stories to share the news. One of my good friends took it upon herself to share her negative experience with the service so it left me with few words to say so I asked a lot of questions instead.

(A lesson I took away from my old job was to take everything with a grain of salt. An old manager told me this saying, and honestly, wasn’t entirely sure what she meant by this since it was the first time hearing this saying. I grew up in a Mexican home so I didn’t grow up familiar with English idioms. Thanks to Google, I’ve come far with my English idioms. Taking things with a grain of salt means to not believe everything someone says. It’s obviously polite to listen, but ultimately, it is up to you to use your own judgement to form an opinion of something.)

I knew she wouldn’t lie about something like this so I was genuinely concerned about everything she shared. I asked a lot of questions, but in the end, decided to still make the recipes because I wasn’t going to throw everything out.

So I cooked the first meal the very next day.

Turns out we (Jose and I) loved it! In fact, we enjoyed each meal (total of four) we decided to order five more meals for the following week.

I went ahead and compiled a list of pros and cons to help you decide if it’s something worth trying.

Pros:
  • Saves time grocery shopping
  • Saves time planning and organizing meals
  • Saves time prepping each meal
  • Keeps you on track for eating healthy

Personally, I thought the mess was easier to clean too! But I think this is up to one’s cooking style so you may not agree with me on this one.

Cons:
  • You still have to cook each meal. On average, each meal takes about 35 minutes to cook.
  • There will be no leftovers. However, you can easily change this by increasing the number of people to feed.
  • It looks like the maximum number of people to feed is 4. If that’s the case, this meal-kit provider eliminates larger families.
  • Delivery day for our area is Saturday – I don’t believe the delivery day is flexible.

Due to the delivery day being inflexible, I had to hold back on ordering meals because I knew I wasn’t going to be home on the delivery day.

Once our schedules clear up, we will go back to trying more Hello Fresh meals. Until then, we will be relying on Snap Kitchen, Fuel Kitchen, Freebirds, and Chipotle. All of these have healthy options and saves us plenty of time to focus on our projects and whatnot.

I hope this review of our Hello Fresh Experiences helps. As always, if you have any questions, you can email me at sonia@mrsprofresh.com or send a DM on Instagram.

Ps. My sweet friend messaged me again to tell me she had confused Hello Fresh with another meal-kit provider! Whew – the relief! Thank goodness it wasn’t Hello Fresh because I love it so far!
