hi, i'm sonia.

unapologetically, so herself.

Hi, I’m Sonia – and I’ve never done anything the expected way.

I graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Marketing – because Lauren Conrad made it look possible, and I believed her. What followed was not exactly a fashion career. (Darn, you LC.) It was three jobs at once, moving back home, living out of half a closet, and learning to get really creative with what I had.

That closet situation is actually where this whole thing started. When you can only keep your favorite pieces and have to make them work every single way possible, you figure out pretty quickly what style actually means. It’s not about having more. It’s about knowing what you love and keeping it for years.

I started blogging in 2016 – first as Miss Profresh, then Mrs Profresh after I married the boy who had a crush on me since second grade. (He was patient. Very patient.) “Profresh” comes from professional + fresh, which was the original mission: helping working women dress with intention without the dull. That mission has grown up since then. So have I.

These days, life looks a little different.

I live in Houston with my husband Jose – together we’re the Sojo’s, and our home is the Sojo Home. It’s where I play with recipes, arrange flowers just because, and set a table like every dinner is worth celebrating. Hosting isn’t something I take lightly. It’s my newly discovered love language. It has kept me busy and healed the broken parts of me as we navigate our journey to baby H.

Speaking of baby H, we are in the middle of one of the hardest and most faith-stretching seasons of our lives: our fertility journey. It started with NaProTechnology, however, we are now in the thick of IVF. It certainly isn’t how I pictured our lives would unfold, but I have learned to accept what is.

You’ll find two things on this corner of the internet:

The blog is the polished version – style guides, gift guides, travel recaps, recipes worth bookmarking, home and hosting ideas.

The newsletter, The So Her Edit, is everything else. The deets. Our fertility journey. The unfiltered thoughts. The stuff that doesn’t make it to the feed. If you want to know what’s actually going on, that’s where I’ll be.

But before you go, a few fun facts:

  • I graduated high school at 16.
  • I celebrated my 21st birthday on the Great Wall of China during a study abroad trip.
  • I am the oldest of three sisters & two brothers.
  • I met Jose when were seven years old and got married 20 years later.
  • I am first generation Mexican-American.
  • Traveling is my favorite thing to do; I love to explore new places!
  • I loooove to cook – I find it therapeutic for the mind, body, and soul.
  • Before becoming a digital creator, I started my career in Oil & Gas before switching to Technology.

I believe life is too short to live an ordinary one – not as a tagline, but as a conviction I have to remind myself of on hard days. Faith is the foundation of everything. And I will always, always romanticize my life, even when it’s messy.

Happy you’re here & hope we can connect.

xoxo,

Sonia
