Hi and welcome!
My name is Shirley but I go by my middle name – Sonia. I graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Merchandising and minor in Marketing. At the time of graduation, I immediately started looking for a job. I tried my best to stay in the Fashion industry since it was where I always pictured myself but it was not my destiny for whatever reason. Seven months after graduation, I moved back home. I helped my parents with the family business and got a second job as a bartender. I might as well say I had three jobs because looking for a job is a full-time job. Nine months after moving back home, I finally accepted an offer in Houston.
During those nine months at home, I realized my talent behind maximizing the clothes hanging in my closet. Let me paint the picture for you real quick – the room I was crashing at my parents house did not allow me to move in all of my belongings. I was forced to choose my top favorite essentials and live off the clothes and shoes I decided to keep. The rest was stored away…for nine months. Feel my pain?
As frustrating as the process was, I had faith in God’s greater plan. It was only a matter of time. I made the best of it by focusing on the best version of myself, paying off credit card debt, and well, getting creative with the clothes I was stuck with. I must admit, I had fun doing it. I wanted to share my ideas with the world and inspire other women struggling with wardrobe creativity. The idea of blogging was always there but I never acted on it. It was not until 2016 that I finally got the courage to do it.
I started with Miss. Profresh in September 2016. It was shortly after I got engaged so I did not dedicate enough time to it. In late 2017, I decided to rebrand and begin again – this time as Mrs. Profresh. The word “profresh” comes from merging the word “professional” and “fresh”. Since my focus was the working professional, I wanted a blog name to reflect my mission. My mission is to inspire professionals by sharing fresh ideas on how to style the everyday office look. I think it is easy to fall into complacency when it comes to corporate wardrobe but it does not have to be dull. Life is meant to be fun and dressing up can be fun too!
Hope we are able to connect…thanks so much for reading!
