Favorite Coffee Shops in Downtown Houston

Favorite Coffee Shops in Downtown Houston

Who doesn’t love a good coffee/work date? There is something about a coffee shop that gets my creativity flow going. Ever since I was in college, I would hunker down at my local Starbucks and study for hours upon hours until wee hours of the night. I know that doesn’t sound very healthy, or inexpensive, but I had little hacks to get by, haha. Anyway, up until today, this remains as one of my favorite things to do to get work done, especially when it comes to creating for the blog. Today, on mrsprofresh.com, I am sharing my favorite coffee shops in downtown Houston. Keep this one handy for when you’re in the area!

As some of you know, we have lived in downtown Houston for nearly three years. During this time, I’ve explored enough coffee shops to say which ones are my current top favorites. I’ve described my top four picks below, and most importantly, shared why I love each one.

Tout Suite

I’ve been coming here since the very beginning. If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen this one on my stories.

The environment of this coffee shop is usually chill. Dependent upon the day of the week, it can get packed (aka loud). I think its open space, low lighting, and large selection of seating options, has made the space very popular in the Houston area. Not to mention, their menu is quite extensive. Out of all of the coffee shops mentioned on this blog post, Tout Suite is the one with the most items on the menu. On top of great coffee, they offer breakfast, brunch, pastries, fresh juices, wine, and much more.

My sister claims they serve the best acai smoothie – just saying. And Jose loves their fresh oatmeal cookies! As for me, I love their pink cupcakes, strawberries and cream croissants, and cronuts. Also, if you ever need a birthday cake, consider this place. I’ve bought two naked ones in the past and everyone loved them!

So if you love industrial vibes, and need fuel in the form of food, highly recommend to check this place out. If you plan to make it a work day, arrive early to grab a good spot with a nearby outlet. Having said that, they recently placed a two-hour limit on their wifi. Either buy a second cup of coffee, or a pastry, and you’ll have access to another two hours, or kindly ask for another passcode to access the wifi again. 😉

Mademoiselle Louise

Mademoiselle Louise

I love coming to this charming little coffee shop. We used to live down the street from it so it has a special place in my heart. Also, I’ve gotten to know the owners, and they’re incredibly kind.

My top favorite thing about Mademoiselle Louise is, the owners are actually from France. Like can you get any more authentic than that?!? Who doesn’t love an authentic spot?!? Their croissants, quiche, baguettes, and cannele, are divine. Sooooo delish!

They recently revamped the space by adding an adorable neon sign, mustard yellow vintage-y chairs, and lounge area. It’s definitely an Instagram moment.

If you love and appreciate an authentic French croissant, highly recommend to visit this place. I don’t think you’ll regret it. It’s located in the mix of downtown so if you stay at a nearby hotel, you could easily walk here. (I mean, after all, it wouldn’t hurt to burn those croissant calories afterwards, right?!)

Koffeteria

OK, OK, if I am going to pay $6 for a cup of coffee it would only be at Koffeteria for their famous Salty Cambodian drink. I know, it’s a little pricey (compared to a regular latte drink) but it’s so good. They also have fresh food, and I can’t help it, I always grab something to go. I’ve tried their bacon/cheese croissant and their orange muffin – those things didn’t stand a chance! They were so freakin’ good. They offer unique choices too – I think last time I went I saw they had hot cheetos in one of their croissants…I don’t know what to say tbh. I love hot cheetos but in a croissant? I can’t judge since I’ve never tried it. Anyway, I normally see people picking up their breakfast order on the weekends. They must have yummy breakfast but I have yet to try it.

The indoor space is a little narrow and small. Personally, I wouldn’t come and work here. As a matter of fact, I believe their indoor seating is currently closed. They share an outdoor patio with the place next door, Chapman & Kirby, but I have yet to sit and enjoy my cup of coffee there. Since it’s close to home, I normally like to walk there and back, and enjoy my stroll while listening to a podcast and sipping on my Salty Cambodian.

Brass Tacks

This darling place just opened a few weeks ago in east downtown, which is why I am missing photos. I have to say, Tout Suite may have a competitor in the making. Once everyone finds out about this place, I think it’s going to be poppin’. Their indoor space is incredibly spacious and open. The owner thought about every little detail…there’s a large community table, small booths for one person, medium booths for two people, and a larger booth for a larger group. There’s also a bar area, little hubs for solopreneurs, or students, and small tables for small groups. I think you can even use the steps to study/work too. Anyway, the point is, there’s an option for everyone.

Best part? Their coffee isn’t going to cost you an arm and a leg. I respect this so much – not sure if this will change in the future but we shall wait and see. I’ve had the vanilla and pumpkin spice lattes and loved both options since they were not too sweet. They’re working to add more options to their menu so as time passes, I will update this blog post with more information.

Well, there you have it, my favorite coffee shops in downtown Houston! If you happen to visit any of these recs, I’d love to know what you think! You can let me know by tagging me while visiting, or through a direct message on Instagram. 😉 Hope you love! Also, since we are on the subject of coffee, I shared a #psl recipe last week…more about that here.
