Happy, happy Monday!!! Hope you had a fabulous weekend! My family visited from Dallas so mine was filled with entertainment and laughs. Our little niece is something else, and literally, has us wrapped around her little finger.
Since we are almost halfway through the month, I figured it was time to share what I learned about the book I read last month. Ok, ok, so I am not quite done with it. There is one more chapter to read but I promised myself to finish it this week since I am almost down to two weeks to read February’s book.
So you’ve heard all about it, seen and laughed at all the memes, and most likely saw the preview on Netflix, I am referring to “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” book by Marie Kondo. I do not think it was a coincidence this book was the talk of January. Since it was the beginning of a brand new year, everyone and their mamas was on the pursuit of tidying up.
The KonMari Method is categorizing by category, not by location. Kondo does an amazing job in explaining exactly what order of categories to follow. She’ll dive deep into the rules of applying the method. This book is literally a step-by-step guide on how to begin and end. The number one reason I am 1,000% sold on her advice is because every single one of her (many) clients that has applied her method correctly has not gone back to their old ways. I strongly believe the KonMari Method is a reflection of everything I aspire to have – self-awareness, mindfulness, and most importantly, inner peace. I might as well delete the “5 Tips for Organizing Your Closet” post because it is useless at this point. But I am not. I am keeping it to display a past version of myself…technically it still is a current version of myself because I have not completed the “Tidying Up Marathon” just yet. The thought of going through and holding every single item in my apartment to ask myself, “Does this spark joy?” is a little nerve-racking. The only reason I feel motivated to follow through is because I am holding on to the promise of having to do this task only once. No more twice a year purges. To be honest, I am surprised at how much this book has already made an impact on my way of thinking, and I have yet to implement it.
The date for our tidying up marathon is yet to be set. It will definitely be by or before March 31st. I am most likely going to record this all-day session and post it to my YouTube channel. Perhaps our session will ‘spark joy’ or inspiration for you to do the same! Looking forward to sharing more about this life-changing experience.
