Technically, this trip started on a hotel terrace in Puerto Vallarta, champagne in hand, celebrating nine wonderful years of marriage. But if I’m honest, the outfit didn’t get its flowers until days later, on a patio in Guadalajara, holding an iced coffee next to the fluffiest pancakes you ever did see. A good summer romper dress doesn’t need much to make its case. Give it an anniversary dinner and a coffee date with the fam, and it’ll prove itself twice in one trip.
This is the piece I want you to see in every scenario below, because it held up in every scenario I put it in.

Dress or Romper? Yes.
Here’s the plot twist. It looks like a floaty little sundress right up until you sit down and remember there are shorts doing the work under that skirt, not fabric doing the guessing for you. That’s the whole appeal of a good summer romper dress – you get the look of a dress with none of the wind, stairs, or valet negotiating that comes with an actual skirt.
The halter neckline is pleated straight down into a fitted bodice, the waist is fitted too, and the skirt flares out just enough to move when you walk. The floral print is giving soft and romantic. Perfect for spring/summer.
True to size on me. The halter ties give you a little room to loosen or tighten it through the neckline depending on how you want it to sit.

First, Puerto Vallarta
For our anniversary dinner this year, I wanted something that reflected summer happy feelings. This, of course, meant something colorful and fun. When I first tried it on, I knew it had to come with me.
I love how versatile it is. It’s easy to dress up or down. (And trust – I have done both.)
One glass of champagne on the terrace before dinner, then dinner itself at one of our favorite restaurants in PV. Nine years in and he still lets me stop for photos at every fountain we pass, which might be the real anniversary gift.

The Reason I Packed It
When I packed this romper, I already knew Tlaquepaque was on our Jalisco itinerary, and I knew it would be the moment for it. Tlaquepaque is colorful and inviting. It is made up of cobblestone streets, artisan shops, food stands, and doorways draped in bougainvillea. A soft floral piece with a little movement felt right.
But first, coffee. My sister and brother in law flew in to meet us, and Patio Bonobo was our stop before Tlaquepaque. Crossbody bag, gold jewelry, and tan kitten heels to complete the outfit.
It was perfect.

One Romper, Two Different Occasions
That’s the real test of a good summer romper dress. Not whether it photographs well once, but whether it can go from a candlelit anniversary dinner to a fun-filled day exploring and look intentional both times. This one did it without a single wrinkle steamer session in between. (Ofc I washed it in between.)
So if you’re building a vacation capsule that is versatile and timeless, I highly recommend this summer romper dress.
