Day 17: A Little Life Update

I figured it was time for a raw little life update…

But first, I hope you’re doing okay and staying healthy. I am praying for those who have lost loved ones. I am praying for those who have lost their jobs. I am praying for those kiddos who are experiencing abuse at home. I am praying for the world. My heart is seriously with all of you. I am trying my best to remain positive and being a light somehow through this darkness. I am trying to uplift those who I know are going through a difficult time. The best way I know how to remain positive, and uplift those around me, is to continue being myself by laughing, sharing memes, recalling memories, talking about the future, and honestly, working on myself to become a better person. I know I am not perfect – although I wish I was. However, how boring would that be? I know I have a lot to improve on and that’s the mission I am on. As long as I am healthy, fulfilled, happy, elevated, and at my best, I will continue to pour myself into others. I will do this by spreading positivity, happiness, and motivational things through a text, email, phone call, my blog, and social media platforms. If you are one of those who don’t like positive people, I am not your girl. If you are one to dwell in the past, that’s ok, but don’t drag others down with you. If you attack others on the internet, I am definitely not your girl. If you find peace when others are hurting, not your girl either. The purpose of this message is to serve as a reminder to be kind – to ourselves and to each other. There is so much negativity in this world already, why continue adding more of it? I listened to a podcast episode (#260, Misery Loves Company – An Argument For More Positivity) from The Skinny Confidential earlier this week, and I couldn’t agree more with Lauryn and Michael. They hit on pretty much everything I’ve been thinking about this entire time. If you’re looking for something uplifting, highly suggest to tune in. Hey, you probably aren’t looking for something uplifting, but you’re interested in learning about a different perspective – tune in.

Having said that, below is a list of things my family and I have been doing to spread some positivity:

  • My little sister came up with the grand idea to write things the family is grateful for on a chalkboard. For those of us who don’t live at home, she is asking us every day what we are grateful for and writes it down for us. Once she has everyone’s input, she shares a photo with everyone! It’s quite cute. I look forward to seeing what my dad and brother are grateful for each day, lol. (Their handwriting cracks me up for some reason!)

  • Family group texts – I think I have one for each category, haha! I have one with my sisters, another one with the entire family, another one with my Dallas family, another one with my cousins, and I think that’s it. One group text stays busy…that’s the one with my Dallas family. This is my favorite one because we are all idiots together – I say this very lightly and loosely haha. (Just keeping it real – love you guys.) Our favorite thing to do is laugh..and that’s exactly how we bond. We, or should I say they, send memes ALLLLLLLLLLLLL day. And I love it. (Sometimes I’ll send a few here and there.) Anyway, if you don’t have a group of friends who love memes, find one ASAP! LOL! It’s the best time and good for the soul.
  • One of the things I love to do is spoil my husband. I looooove to spoil that man, and yes, I expect him to do the same, LOL! (Again – just being real.) But seriously, I do a lot of things without expecting anything in return. I simply love spoiling him because his love language is acts of service. What does this mean? Well, I will wash the dishes even though I cooked (we have rule in our house, whoever doesn’t cook, cleans), I will bake fresh banana bread, I will cook his favorite breakfast, I will make homemade tortillas (even though I am exhausted), I will bring back the trash can after the trash has been picked up, etc., etc. It makes him happy and it makes me happy to see him happy, and relaxed. We have always been intentional about our marriage/relationship but I am feeling a little extra, and doing the most recently. (I won’t go into these details, lol. Don’t want to embarrass him.) Anyway, if you have a significant other, this is a great time to connect on a deeper level.

Well, that’s a wrap for this evening. I hope this leaves you with ideas for spreading positivity. And hey, if you are in a dark place due to unfortunate circumstances, I am so sorry. I definitely think it’s normal and necessary to go through every emotion you are experiencing. It’s okay to cry, be angry, etc. Let it out. But then find a way towards light. Surround yourself with people who are positive (well, not right now but you know what I mean). Cut people off. Slow and positive changes eventually will lead you to a place of internal and external peace. At least that’s my hope for everyone.

xx
