Day 16: Jalapeño Gouda Cheese Burgers

We have been craving burgers since Sunday. Literally. We tried ordering some from one of our favorite spots, Burger Joint, but they put us on hold for a very long time. Twice, lol. So we gave up. (No hard feelings, Burger Joint, we are glad you’re still busy during this time. We know how delicious you are!)

Anyway, I decided to buy the ingredients to create delicious jalapeño gouda cheese burgers…with baked potato wedges.

Here’s what you’ll need to make the patties, ~4 patties:

  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tbsp of minced garlic
  • 1/3 of white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped
  • 1 small pack of fresh ground meat (~1.35 lbs)
  • Gouda cheese, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Step 1

In a small pan, over low heat, grill the garlic, onion, and jalapeño for 2 – 3 minutes. Set aside until the veggie mix cools off.

Step 2

In a large bowl, add the fresh ground meat, grilled veggies, chopped gouda cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix until all of the ingredients are blended.

Step 3

Form patties into nice and perfect rounds.

Step 4

In a medium pan, over medium heat, grill the patties. (I don’t add oil since ground meat typically does not stick to the pan.) Cook to taste, I prefer mine well done. You do you, honey.

Step 5

Prep the buns by buttering them up and toasting them!

Step 6

Dress burger to your taste.

There are SO many ways to go from here – we are all different. Here is what I like on my burger: mustard, grilled jalapeños, avocado slices, lettuce, and of course, the patty. (By the way, I didn’t have lettuce so I had to use mixed greens.)

I bought green peppercorn sauce for tomorrow’s dinner, BUT I COULD NOT RESIST, I opened it, and grilled some of it to serve as a dipping sauce. It was eh – ok. Jose wasn’t a fan…but I liked it. Will I buy it again? Probably not. But if you’re curious, or crazy about peppercorn sauce, maybe you’d like to try it anyway…here’s the photo:

Here’s what you’ll need for the baked potato wedges, 2 servings:

  • 1 large russet potato
  • 1 tsp of olive oil
  • 1 tsp of minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Step 1

Heat the oven at 450 degrees.

Step 2

On a baking pan, lay out the potatoes, and add the olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper.

Step 3

Bake for 15 – 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Quick tip on the process – prep all of the ingredients first. Chop up everything needed and prep the potato wedges, etc. Once the patties are ready to be grilled, place the baking pan in the oven to bake the potatoes. This way, you’ll have the potatoes baking while the patties are grilling. The potatoes might be ready before the patties so turn the oven off after 15 minutes, and leave them in the oven so they can continue baking. This will also help them stay warm until the burgers are ready to eat.

I hope you enjoy this easy and healthier burger option. Yes, we opted for wheat buns so I consider that healthy, hahaha. If you try it, please let me know your thoughts.
