A Spring Getaway

It has been a week since I drove up to Dallas to visit the Texas-Tulips fields with my sisters and baby niece. It was a girls day filled fun and much needed homemade ice cream from my college town, Denton, TX.

The fields are covered with tulips in all of the colors you can imagine, and basing off IG photos and hashtags, it is a beautiful sight to see.

Texas-Tulips is located in Pilot Point, TX, which is approximately 45 minutes north of Dallas. It normally opens in late February and closes in late March or early April, all dependent upon the weather. It is a family-owned business who brought this idea from their native roots, Holland (or The Netherlands). The owners continue business throughout the year by selling pre-cooled tulip bulbs via their online shop. Can you imagine having imported tulips from The Netherlands in your garden?!? What a dream come true for the flower lovers! Best part? The prices are budget-friendly! You can read more about their story here.

We visited the place on a Thursday late morning, a few days after it announced it was open for the season. There was no issue in finding the location and the drive there was not too shabby. It was actually quite nice escaping to the countryside of Texas. Parking is completely free and the entry fee is $5 per person. For only $2.50/tulip, you can pick the ones of your choice, although it is not required to enter the fields. There is a small area to sit and portable restrooms are located onsite. They have cute picking baskets available, and after you’re done selecting your tulips, they’ll wrap them in tissue paper and put a special gel on the stems to help preserve them until you get home. Once you are ready to transfer them to a vase, rinse off the gel and arrange them according to style and taste.

As far as how our experience went, well, let’s just say we visited a little too early in the season. Not all of the flowers were in full bloom, however, we took advantage of the tulip rows that were beginning to blossom. In case you missed what I shared via IG stories, you can catch the action on my IG highlights (Texas story). Would I go again? Most certainly but I would wait a little longer before making the drive. I would like to think mid-March is the perfect time to go, but honestly, it is all up to mother nature’s behavior. The best way to know the status of the tulips is to call in advance or stay up-to-date with Texas-Tulips Facebook and IG accounts. I’d love to go again during our visits to Dallas later this month but I am not sure if Jose is up for it. We will have to wait and see if there is a moment to sneak away.

After exploring the fields, and a ton of photos later, we made a pit stop and visited my old college stomping grounds – Denton, TX! Go Mean Green! We stopped at Barley & Board for lunch then went to Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream. Both of these places are located in the Historic Downtown Denton Square (The Square), the most quaint place to visit in the North Dallas region. I must admit, I was impressed with Barley & Board. This place did not exist while I was in college so it was a nice surprise to this alumni. Highly recommend grabbing a drink, or something to eat, if you ever find yourself in the Dallas area. Guys, I was overjoyed to be there! I had all the feels rushing through my body. Also, for the first time ever, Jose and I plan to go to Denton to witness our college football teams play against each other this fall! I am super pumped to attend this football game, I’ve already told my siblings to prep for the game because it is going to be an epic time! You can bet I am looking forward to exploring more of this charming town this upcoming fall.

This wraps up tonight’s blog post. Thank YOU so much for taking time out of your crazy schedule to read it. I truly appreciate each and every one of my readers. Until next time…which is Friday for more #profreshlooks.
